Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry, is a great book. It won the Pulitzer Prize so it should be pretty easy to find. If she likes it, there are four books in that series, and McMurtry has written other westerns as well.

How about Jim Harrison’s Legends of the Fall?

A well written western that isn’t just a mere oater.

For more modern stories, try books by Tony Hillerman. He's very popular.

Author Zane Grey would be one that your grandmother would like, also Louis L'Amour, another author. They are both established western writers and would not offend your grandmother's sensibilities.
