Cowboy Music & Poetry with a Celtic Twist

COWBOY CRAIC WITH BIT & CASEY

Catherine "Lilbit" Devine grew up in the Desert southwest. A Tucson native, she grew up immersed in a rich meld of Scot/Irish, Hispanic, Sicilian & Native American culture & customs. Lucky enough to be raised around horses & cattle, she began writing poetry in the fifth grade. She writes about the land, its people & the only way of life she has ever known. Rodeo & ranching are in her blood, as is the Code of the West. She rode roughstock in high school, saddle bronc & bareback bronc, entering any jackpot rodeo and amateur rodeo that would take her entry fees. Whenever someone would say that a girl ought not to be doing such a thing, she would answer, "If it was good enough for Tad Lucas & Fox Hastings then its good enough for me." She is just as at home horseback, on a dance floor or in the back chutes. She divides her time between her children, her close knit family, her menagerie of animals, her day job, her jewelry designing & her writings.

She is the founder of Whispers of the West, a Western Artists Co-op dedicated to promoting the talents of Western  Poets, Musicians, Native Crafters, Southwestern Jewelry Artists, Story Tellers, & Western Photographers. Stop by the Oklazona Mercantile to see what is on the shelves!

Among her other many endeavors, Lilbit helped to establish a Youth Trick Roping Performance Troupe, The Cactus Cowboy Corral, which has performed throughout the United States & Canada. They are an outstanding group of young girls & boys who come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds throughout the Tucson Valley.

Bit has published Cactus Faeries, a Children's picture book illustrated by Leila Megan Montiel, released in February 2006, and Rodeo'n, Romanc'n & Remember'n, a compilation of poems written by Lilbit & Jacob MacCallister, which was released in 2003. She, along with Casey, Jeff Streeby and Debra Coppinger Hill, released a compilation CD, Whispers of the West ~ Armagh to Arizona, in July of 2006. She has two more books slated for release in 2007, Mis Raices Estan Aqui ~ Life's Lessons Learned, her second book of Western Poetry, and Critter Sitter, her second children's picture book. Also in spring of 2008, Bit will release her first CD, One More Renegade Rose.

Gerry "Casey" Allen writes from the heart and soul of a Cowboy. Raised on family cow/calf operations in Missouri, Texas and Washington State, Casey grew up with a deep appreciation for the land, its history and the people of the West. His love of Western life is reflected in his Western Poetry and songs, which he has been sharing with audiences for twenty years or more. Casey's wry sense of humor is reflected in the comic pieces which are appreciated by audiences every where. His interactions with members of the audience allow them to become part of the show. A talented guitarist, he has been playing since the age of eight. He brings a unique perspective to all Cowboy music with his own Irish roots. As a songwriter Casey has had his works sung by some of the top Cowboy Entertainers performing today. He has a broad knowledge of old Cowboy songs, which are deeply rooted in the Celtic culture.  He is always willing to share this rich knowledge and cultural connection with anyone who will ask.

Gerry "Casey" Allen has performed at the National Cowboy Symposium in Lubbock Texas for the past ten years. He has performed at Red Steagall's Cowboy Gathering and Swing Festival in Ft Worth for the past 8 years. Gerry "Casey" Allen has been an Academy of Western Artists Nominee for the past seven years. He appears in the Southwest Whispers book series & the PBS Cowboy Poetry video series, Cowboy Corral.

Grass & Water, his new CD will be out in late autumn of 2007. It will feature original songs and poetry, as well as renditions of songs written by some of Casey's favorite Cowboy performers. Look for Cowboy Craic with Bit & Casey, coming in the spring of 2008. They are also working on a children's western music CD.
